I Did Not Know
I knew it would be hard,
I did not know my hands would shake.
I knew that it would hurt,
I did not think my heart would break.
I knew that I would miss you,
I did not know how much.
I did not know my skin would burn
Just longing for your touch.
I knew my tears would fall,
I did not know they'd scar my face.
I knew my tears would stop,
I did not think they'd leave a trace.
I knew time would be slow,
I did not know that it would cease.
I'd did not know I'd be a prisoner
Waiting for release.
I knew days would be cold,
I did not know the sun would die.
I knew nights would bring pain,
I did not think the stars would cry.
I knew you'd make me laugh,
I knew that you would make life new
And yet, I never knew you'd make me
Fall in love with you.
